Grand Marsh, Wisconsin, zipcode 53936 is located in the northeast corner of New Chester Township. It is right by Easton, Adams and Lincoln Townships of Adams County on County Road E & B between Westfield & Adams-Friendship. The town is considered to be unincorporated. Grand Marsh is mostly known for the original Grand Marsh State Bank, the annual Corn N’ Tator Fest and most recently, the New Chester Dairy. The town is small and has a railroad running through it with access by a county road. There is a post office, bank, bar / grill, gas station, elementary school and 80 acres of Adams-Friendship School District land with access off of 6th Ave. The area does have a few lakes and creeks including Patrick Lake, Risk Creek, McGinnis Lake, Neenah Creek trout stream and Campbell Creek, to name a few. Not too far away are some areas open to the public for hunting and fishing including; New Chester Waterfowl Production Area, Lawrence Creek State Natural Area and Lawrence Creek State Fish & Wildlife Area.
Wisconsin is home to the 430 mile long Wisconsin River which is known for its amazing historical background. The riverwalk starts by Wisconsin Dells in the Downtown Shopping District also known as “The Strip” which is Broadway inside the city limits but is State Highways 16, 23 and 13. At the intersection of Broadway and River Road you can find parking behind the commercial buildings. There are public restrooms on a lower level at the beginning in one of the buildings. Here’s where one of the Wisconsin River Tour Boats boards tourists; you can see the stairs down to the docks. Walking north along the river across the bridge leading to “The Point” gives a nice view of the Wisconsin River and the Rail Road Bridge crossing over the river. There are signs with historical facts and photos along the entire Wisconsin Dells Riverwalk which is about 1600 feet from the strip to the end of the River Road Bridge. Before you get to the bridge there’s an area called Overlook with seats and even outdoor chess tables.
Castle Rock Lake is located in Central Wisconsin just north of Wisconsin Dells between Adams County and Juneau County WI. It’s also known as Castle Rock Flowage which is considered Wisconsin’s 4th largest inland lake with a surface area of about 13,955 acres and a max depth of 36 feet deep. Castle Rock Lake is part of the Wisconsin Flowage System and is just South of Lake Petenwell. This area is a well-known vacation / tourist area loaded with public hunting land, sandy beaches, trout streams, farmland, small towns and lots of Wisconsin Wildlife. The lake has a wide variety of fish including; Musky, Walleye, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Carp, Panfish, Crappie, Bluegill and just below Castle Rock Dam are Sturgeon.
Neenah Creek is known for its Brown Trout which starts at McGinnis Lake it’s headwaters in New Chester Township of Adams County and quickly flows through 4 locations of Upper Neenah Creek State Fishery Areas. It flows through Jackson Township right past Wolf Lake then just north of Hill Lake (Private) before it winds its way into Oxford Township of Marquette County making its way into Neenah Lake in the Village of Oxford, Wisconsin. The water flows through Neenah Dam returning back to creek form heading south into Douglas Township Neenah Creek is continually fled by little unknown creeks and streams along its way until meeting up O’Keefe Creek whose headwaters are from Blue Lake right by Jordan Lake back in Adams Cty. The main channel meets up with the South Branch of Neenah Creek getting its water from Mason Lake.
The Upper Neenah Creek Fishery Area was created in 1962 and is about 360 acres. It's located in New Chester and Jackson Township in Adams County, Central WI. This public land area is spread out over 4 locations along Neenah Creek which is also a Class 1 trout stream. Access points are somewhat limited to roadside parking in most cases with some spots requiring access through the water or private land. The roads adjoining the Upper Neenah Creek Fishery are County Road G, County road A, County road EE and Fawn Court and 1st Lane with the only parking area by Hill Lake on County Road EE. According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, fishing, hunting, trapping, hiking, birding and photography are all allowed. This area is also managed for Brown Trout by the WI DNR. The fishery is also home to a wide variety of wildlife such as Whitetail Deer, beaver, eastern wild turkey, grouse woodchucks and squirrels. You will find red oak, white oak, red & white pine, jack pine as well as birch and maple in the sandy lowland soils. The Upper Neenah Creek State Fishery Area is considered to be part of the Wisconsin State Park System.
Easton Lake is located right in the little Town of Easton which is in Easton Township in Adams County, Central Wisconsin just north of The Dells. This 24 acre lake is about 10 deep and has an average depth of 5 feet. Easton Lake is one of the only small lakes in Adams Cty that is known for brook trout. A few other lakes may have some trout and there are several good trout streams in the area but not many lakes with trout at all. Fed by several springs and Campbell Creek from the East after the lake Campbell Creek meets Fairbanks Creek, then they both run through into White Creek which flows all the way to the Wisconsin River just south of Castle Rock Lake.
Easton Shores Pond is a newer lake as far as the public is concerned due to the recent development around the pond. This small pond which is about 3+/- acres with reports of largemouth bass, crappies, bluegills and trout. This is part of Risk Creek, flows from the east to the west which is dammed up by a small earthen dam with an overflow tube located near 10th drive. Easton Shores Pond is part of the 167 acres development called Easton Shores most parcels range 4 to 6 acre in size that are on or have deeded access to the pond via an outlot by the new formed public access area.
Goose Lake is a well know fishing lake in Jackson Township, Adams County, Central Wisconsin. Here you’ll find a small public beach / boat launch surrounded by older vacation homes and some full time residential homes as well. The lake offers excellent opportunities for Largemouth Bass & Panfish fishing with the occasional Northern Pike. It's about 81 acres with a max depth of 18 feet deep plus a small 3 acre island by Tranquil Bay on the Southwest side of the lake. Great fishing, but not as deep as some of the neighboring fishing lakes like Wolf Lake at 50 ft deep or Deep Lake at 47 feet deep which are no wake lakes.
There’s not much vacant land for sale on Goose Lake anymore because most lakefront lots were built on many years ago and the new development called Tranquil Bay only has a couple waterfront lake lots. It is aerated for the fish but it created thin ice in the winter so becareful.
Peppermill Lake located in Jackson Township of Adams County, Central Wisconsin also known as Beaver Pond 100 acres in size and about 9 feet deep. Peppermill Lakes shoreline and the surrounding area around the lake is mostly developed into residential lot with vacation homes and full time houses. There’s only one large 40 acre parcel to the northwest. Jackson Township is home to several smaller fishing lakes within a short 5 minute drive from Peppermill like Goose, Wolf, McDougall, Deep, Hill, Crooked, Parker and Neenah Creek class trout stream that forms Upper Neenah Creek State Fishery Area.
Deep Lake is located in Jackson Township of Adams County, Central Wisconsin. This Lake is about 47 feet deep and 35 acres total. It is home to Largemouth Bass, North Pike, Trout and a wide variety of panfish making a good fishing lake. About 50% of Deep Lake is divided into smaller waterfront lots along the southern and northeastern shorelines. Looking at it from County Road G, you can see the lakefront homes are far from the lake due to the tall steep banks or the shoreline. Deep Lake is located in Jackson Township of Adams County where you can find many other small fishing lake similar to this one; Goose Lake, Wolf Lake, Peppermill Lake, McDougall Lake, Hill Lake, Crooked Lake, Parker Lake and the larger more popular Jordan Lake. Most of these lakes were heavily subdivided back in the 60s, 70s, & 80s into small lake lot with 66 – 100 feet of frontage.
Castle Rock County Park is located at 2397 County Road Z in Adams County, Town of Quincy of Central Wisconsin on the eastside of Castle Rock Lake also known as Castle Rock Flowage. It’s about 141 acres with over 2,500 ft of lake frontage; 200+ campsites including individual, walk-in, lakefront and group sites. The park features a sandy swimming beach, playground equipment, game room, concession area, horseshoes, volleyball, visitor center with office, improved boat launch, boat docking in a small safe harbor, restrooms, heated showers, fish cleaning area, dump station plus lots of parking areas. Around 4th of July weekend the Castle Rock County Park does a Fireworks show which has become very popular over the years. Places & Activities close by consist of Quincy Bluff and Wetlands State Natural Area with Lone Rock, Castle Rock Horse Trails, Sohlberg Silver Lake State Natural Area, Wisconsin River, Wisconsin River Power Company Land (some areas open to the public), Little Roche-A-Cri Creek, Big Roche-A-Cri Creek, Northern Bay Golf Course and lots of public hunting land.
Quincy Bluff and Wetlands State Natural Area are located in Quincy Township of Adams County, Central Wisconsin and is part of the Central Sands Plains. There is lots of wilderness here and attractions like Quincy Bluff, abundant Wisconsin Wildlife, Lone Rock and a view of Rattlesnake Mound. This public area allows hunting, fishing, wildlife viewing, edible foraging for mushrooms and berries. BUT NOT ALLOWED is camping, vehicles, campfires and non-edible collecting like rocks, fossils etc… It’s not far from Castle Rock Lake, Castle Rock County Park, The Wisconsin River and Solberg Silver Lake SNA that is also public land open to hunting. Quincy Bluff is about 200 feet in height, but it seems that Lone Rock is more popular for hikers.
Jordan Lake also known as Long Lake is located in Jackson Township of Adams County, Central Wisconsin. This is one of the more popular lakes on the southern end of the County due to its depth and ski ability. Jordan Lake is an amazing 85 feet deep and about 213 acres in size with 60% of the bottom is sand and the remainder is a mix of silt, marl & rubble. You can find Northern Pike, Walleye, Largmouth Bass, Panfish and even trout. Jordan Lake is a heavily subdivided lake both for the waterfront parcels & off water deeded access lot. There only one section on the east end of the lake that is not split and it’s controlled by 2 private land owners.
Adams County is Located in Central Wisconsin between Wisconsin Rapids and Wisconsin Dells consisting of 17 Townships featuring fishing lakes, trout streams, lots of public land, ATV routes, Snowmobile Trails and rock formations. This county is known for 3 types of industries; recreation tourism, farming (mostly corporate) and small businesses. State Highway 21 is the main artery for East & West and State Hwy 13 is the main artery for North & South travel.
