Twin Lakes & Rome Township WI
Reviewed August 2026
Twin Lakes is a 47-acre flowage (WDNR, WBIC 1377400) located in Rome Township of Adams County, Wisconsin — one of two Wisconsin lakes that share the Twin Lakes name, so note the county. It was most likely a bay on Lake Petenwell at one point until County Z cut it into 2 smaller lakes — and the DNR's official classification of the water as a flowage backs that origin story up. The state does not publish a maximum or average depth for Twin Lakes; its official record carries the acreage, the flowage type and the location. Right across the street about 1 city block down is Twin Lakes boat launch on Lake Petenwell. Now Twin Lake Development is kind of interesting because the Lakefront Lots get dock space on Petenwell Flowage. Twin Lakes Nature Preserve is located just north of the lakes right by Twin Lakes Boat Launch on Lake Petenwell.

Twin Lakes does not appear as a separately inventoried named lake in the Wisconsin DNR's statewide "Wisconsin Lakes" register — consistent with its origin as a bay of the Petenwell flowage cut off by County Z, and with the state's own classification of the water as a flowage. WDNR's lake record for Twin Lakes (WBIC 1377400) lists the acreage and location but publishes no depth figures; the state's published numbers for the connected system belong to Petenwell Lake (23,040 acres, 44 ft maximum depth).
