Buckhorn Barrens WI
What is the Buckhorn Barrens WI? At the end of the Ice Age, Wisconsin's Glacial Lake began drastically draining which in turn flooded the Lower Wisconsin River Valley. This area now is considered the Central Sands of Wisconsin. After time, due to the massive flooding, large amounts of sand began to create terraces along river banks. These sandy areas are called Sand Barrens and are home to many rare creatures that you won't find anywhere else. Sand Barrens have specific types of plants that are able to grow in such poor soil environments as the barrens have. These barrens have savanna-like conditions that provide both habitats and scenic beauty.
